Hand and Wrist

Conditions affecting the hand and wrist are common. We are all familiar with the suffering and loss of function which accompany the more common hand afflictions. The pain and numbness of carpal tunnel syndrome are well know and recognised by many. The difficulty patients have trying to manage with triggering of the fingers and thumb. Often running in families, Dupuytren's Contracture of the palm can lead to progressively disabling flexion of the fingers and thumb limiting hand function.

Mr. Blewitt has seen many patients with conditions affecting the function of the hand over the years as a consultant surgeon. He is able to offer a full assessment and to discuss the options of treatment available to relieve symptoms and to restore function.

Mr Blewitt is able to provide surgical treatment when necessary and oversee the rehabilitation following such intervention to restore function and allow a return to activities.

Mr. Blewitt has a particular interest in complex hand and wrist problems. In particular he has developed a practice over many years in the surgical treatment of Scaphoid fracture non union and in the assessment and surgical management of complex distal radial fracture mal union (Broken Wrist).

Mr Blewitt is also interested in the management of osteoarthritis affecting the base of the thumb CMCJ; he has helped many patients with their disabling symptoms by replacement of this very small joint over many years
