Operative Treatment

If your problems have been persistent for some time, been persistent despite conservative treatment or your particular problem require a surgical procedure. Mr. Blewitt will explain the nature of the proposed operation to you.

Nowadays many operative procedures are undertaken as a day case following a light general anaesthetic combined with local anaesthetic injection through arthroscopic 'keyhole' techniques. Should surgical treatment be advised wherever possible Mr. Blewitt will advise this form of arthroscopic 'keyhole' surgery to facilitate a more rapid recovery and return to function. Mr Blewitt undertakes hundreds of such procedures each year and has found them safe and effective. Mr Blewitt has developed techniques to repair tendons through using modifications of these arthroscopic keyhole techniques and has undertaken over a hundred such repair operations in the past three years.

Sometimes however open surgery is required. When this is necessary Mr. Blewitt will discuss with you the proposed stay in hospital the likely recovery period involved and the on-going treatment in the post-operative stage in relation to your recovery your physiotherapy and exercises requirements and your return to function.
