Out-Patient Clinic Appointment

Mr. Blewitt will see you in his outpatient clinic. During this consultation he will take a full medical history, and examine you. He may also require further investigations. These may take the form of an X-ray or more sophisticated imaging such as a CT scan or an MRI scan. Blood tests or nerve conduction studies are also sometimes required. These will all be explained to you during your clinic appointment.

Often a diagnosis is reached during the initial consultation. Mr. Blewitt will give you an explanation of the problem you have, and discuss with you the treatment options available. Each option of treatment will carry some risk and some risk of continued problems. Mr Blewitt will explain the risks to you. Sometimes an injection of cortisone combined with local anaesthetic can be administered to relieve the symptoms accompanying inflammatory painful conditions. Should this be the case it is possible that your ability to control a car could be affected for perhaps 4 to 6 hours following the injection and you may consider coming with a chauffeur.

Non operative treatments include appropriate activity modification and physiotherapy combined with simple anti-inflammatory medication and sometimes injections of cortisone are all that may be required. Often a clear explanation and understanding of the problem causing your symptoms can aid recovery immeasurably.
